SSC CGL selection process 2025 includes three stages – Tier 1, Tier 2, and Document Verification (DV). Both the tiers are computer-based exams. Participating in all stages is important for you. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier 1 and Tier 2 exams are as follows – UR: 30%, OBC/ EWS: 25% and others: 20%.

SSC CGL Selection Process 2025

Two years ago, SSC revised the selection process, and now only two-tier exams will be conducted to shortlist candidates for various Group B and C posts under the SSC CGL Notification 2025. SSC CGL Examination will be conducted in four tiers as indicated below:

Stage 1 Tier-I: Computer-Based Examination (Qualifying in nature).

Stage 2 Tier-II: Paper I (Compulsory for all posts), Paper II for candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

• All candidates who have applied successfully for the SSC CGL exam, will be assigned Roll numbers and Admit Cards for appearing in the Computer-Based Examination (Tier-I).

• Based on the marks scored in Tier-I, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in Tier-II Examination.

• Separate cut-offs will be released separately for Paper-II of Tier-II (i.e. for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), and for Paper-I of Tier-II (i.e. for all other posts).

• Tier-II Examinations will be conducted for all the candidates qualified in Tier-I.

• In Tier II, all the candidates will be required to appear in Paper-I and Paper-II. However, only specific candidates shortlisted for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) will be required to appear in Paper-II.

• The final selection list will be prepared on the basis of marks scored by the candidates solely in Paper 2.

SC CGL Tier-1 Exam Pattern

The details of the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern are as follows:

  • Questions: 25 questions per section.
  • Total Marks: 200 marks (100 questions, 2 marks each).
  • Exam Type: Computer-based multiple-choice.
  • Languages: English and Hindi (except the English section).
  • Total Time: 1 hour.
  • For Scribe-Eligible Candidates: 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  • Marks per Question: 2 marks.
  • Negative Marking: 0.50 marks are deducted for each wrong answer.

Candidates will get a total of 60 minutes for the exam while candidates eligible for the scribe will get 80 minutes to complete the examination.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

The SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam is a crucial stage in the SSC CGL Selection Process. It plays a key role in determining the final selection of candidates.

  • SSC CGL Tier-2 Sessions: Two sessions for Paper 1; Session 1 covers Section I, II, and Module I of Section III, while Session 2 covers Module II of Section III.
  • Paper 1 Sections: All sections must be qualified.
  • Paper Type: Objective MCQs for all papers, except Module II of Section III in Paper 1.
  • Paper 1: Required for all posts.
  • Paper 2: For Junior Statistical Officer applicants.
  • Language: Questions in English and Hindi, except for the English module in Paper 1.
  • Negative Marking:
    • 1 mark for wrong answers in Section I, II, and Module I of Section III in Paper 1.
    • 0.50 mark for wrong answers in Paper 2 and Paper 3.
  • Qualifying Modules:
    • Module I of Section III in Paper 1 is mandatory but qualifying.
    • Module II of Section III in Paper 1 (DEST) is mandatory and qualifying.
  • DEST/Skill Test: 2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes.

The typing test for SSC CGL which is also known as the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) is an important part of the SSC CGL, the DEST will be mandatory for all posts, but it will be of a qualifying nature.
